PlantUrn is a biodegradable pet memorial urn designed to hold your pet’s cremains while supporting the growth of a tree or plant planted in their memory. Instead of simply preserving cremains in a traditional urn, PlantUrn creates the opportunity to establish a living memorial that can continue growing for years to come.
A Different Kind of Pet Memorial
PlantUrn was designed to address challenges found in traditional plantable pet urns.
The components that remain underground with your pet’s cremains are made using biodegradable materials. PlantUrn uses PHA, or polyhydroxyalkanoates, in its plantable components. PHA is a biodegradable bioplastic produced through the bacterial fermentation of organic materials.
Just as importantly, the upper portion of PlantUrn is not buried.
The top components are removed during the planting process and can remain with you as a keepsake. This allows one part of your pet's memorial to become part of the earth while another remains in your home as a lasting reminder of the pet you loved.
Plant a Tree, Plant a Memory
One of the most meaningful parts of PlantUrn is what happens after burial.
Your pet’s cremains are placed within the biodegradable compartment and the PlantUrn is planted in conjunction with a tree or plant seedling. As the plantable components naturally break down, the memorial tree or plant is given room to establish its roots and grow.
PlantUrn does not include a tree or seedling because growing regions and appropriate planting seasons vary throughout North America. We recommend working with your local nursery or garden center to select a tree or plant that will thrive where you live.
That also gives you another opportunity to personalize your memorial. Choose a tree, flowering shrub or other plant that reminds you of your pet and the life you shared together.
Helping Create an Even Bigger Legacy
PlantUrn was created with another goal in mind: reducing the environmental pawprint our pets leave behind.
For every PlantUrn sold, we donate funds to support planting at least two additional tree seedlings through the National Forest Foundation, the official nonprofit partner of the U.S. Forest Service.
That means one PlantUrn can create more than the memorial you plant at home. It also helps support new trees planted elsewhere.
